Drawing up of a master plan for the municipality of Alken

The municipality of Alken (Belgian municipality located in province of Limburg) aims – just like other cities and communities – at an attractive and well-functioning centre. It is therefore important to develop an integrated vision as policy framework into which the various subvisions and specific projects fit in.

The master plan developed by WES for the municipality of Alken is the perfect instrument to achieve this. It examines the various development possibilities and the positioning of a municipality, which are formulated in a clear and future oriented vision, offering realistic tools through a concrete action plan in order to meet the set objectives.

An integrated vision is typical for a master plan. A master plan looks for reinforcing synergies with other policy themes (public services, traffic, parking, security, retail trade, hotel and restaurant sector, other commercial facilities, housing, culture, tourism…), while other policy plans stop at the borders of a functional theme (e.g. retail trade).
