We drew up a policy vision, strategic objectives and action items for the public markets in the Province of East Flanders.
The public markets experience many challenges due to the consumers’ changing shopping habits. That is why it is important to gain insight into the current situation and draw up a strong future vision with strategic actions.
In the first stage, we analysed the current situation. This was done via desk research on the one hand and via surveys among market vendors and market visitors on the other hand. The market vendors could complete their survey online or on paper, the market visitors could only do so online.
Afterwards, we organised a vision workshop with local governments to present the results of the first stage. The aim was to gain insight into their vision on the market by means of some interactive exercises. We then processed all information of the previous steps into a SWOT analysis.
In the second stage, we drew up five strategic objectives based on the SWOT analysis which enabled us to work out four action points per strategic objective in the third stage.
